thanks to Cailon for the link about nazi ufo's. I have learnt much, hitherto I have only been faintly acquainted with the subject, but back in 2003 when I first read GLO 3 I didn't know anything about it. I have only heard of it years later in a documentary about how USSR and US recruited former nazi scientists to develop rocket technology for their country. However at one point they talked about a very puzzling event, according to them at the end of the WW II German engineers unaccountably turned up thousands of miles away from where they were supposed to be only hours before. I hardly knew more than that until now. But even knowing that, the presence of nazism in the universe of Gunnm just just didn't fit, well at the time GLO 8 & 9 had not been released yet and there seemed to be no link between Gunnm and our world.
well as for nazism being an Ideology... I am afraid though completely twisted flaw ridden and stupid it can be called thus, well at least it is a convenient flag in the name of which certain people see themselves as entitled to spread mindless violence.
to ack44: jojo's bizarre adventure was one of the examples I had in mind when I said that nazism was not perceived the same way in Japan as it is in the western world. in France a Dragon ball ova was censored because of the appearance of a mock Hitler character for less than 2minutes.
I may have oversimplified my point, because it is obvious that Yukito Kishiro would not proceed thus. I believe that your reaction is exactly what yukito kishiro wants. What if Alita found Erica when she arrives on Mars, and decided to follow her( temporarily of course) because she is her only family. After some time Alita would come to her senses and realize that what they have done/do/ are going to do is wrong, and eventually try to convince Erica to stop and of course a confrontation would ensue. That is how I see it IF Kishiro chooses to tread this path, but as Sam said we don't really know much for the moment so the only thing we can do is waiting and make hypotheses, there are still a lot of elements that are liable to change. However this hypothesis may be interesting in terms of story telling: realizing that she belonged to a nazi group may cause a shock to Alita who may then be obliged to act as a cleansing element by wiping out the remaing kunstlers because as a fascist group they represent a danger to the the political stability of Martian government.
Shocking, I daresay.
