Christoph Waltz is in early negotiations to star in Alita: Battle Angel, James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez’s ambitious adaptation of the popular manga graphic novels.

Maze Runner actress Rosa Salazar is on board to play the title character of the potential Fox franchise starter that Rodriguez is directing. Cameron and his Lightstorm Entertainment partner Jon Landau are producing.

Set in the 26th century, Alita tells of a female cyborg (Salazar) that is discovered in a scrapyard by a scientist. With no memory of her previous life except her deadly martial-arts training, the woman becomes a bounty hunter, tracking down criminals. The action-adventure story is meant to serve as a backdrop to themes of self-discovery and the search for love.

If a deal is made, Waltz will play Doctor Dyson Ido, the cybersurgeon who finds the cyborg and becomes her mentor.

Fox is eyeing a fall start for a July 2018 release.

The part will be a change of pace for Waltz, the Oscar-winning actor better known for playing villains. He played the bad guy in this summer’s The Legend of Tarzan and last year's James Bond movie Spectre, but he's been switching directions of late and recently wrapped Alexander Payne's Downsizing and also will appear in the period drama Tulip Fever with Alicia Vikander.

I cannot see problems. My native language, Portuguese, is completely different, and even so we pronounce names like Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Siemens, Basf, Bayer, Bosch; or German persons like Angela Merkel, Klaus Kisnki, Werner Herzorg, Albert Speer, Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, just to mention the obvious.
Such names are known all around the world, so I do not believe that German names would be so problematic.

Worse: Japanese names, much more different, are routinely pronounced: Yukito Kishiro, Akira Kurosawa, Honda, Suzuki, Misubishi, Shohei Imamura…

but most of those words are pronounced wrong in english. im pretty sure all of the japanese names are gonna go too, this movie is made for a western audience after all.

Panzer Kunst has always been one of the coolest sounding things in all fantasy to me. Panzer has good recognition from WWII history which is pretty huge in the US. Kunst is ok.

Funny to think that the 2 books of Vampire stories will be boiled down to 5-10 minutes of flashbacks, IF we are lucky.

Word is that it is going to start from Daisuki Ido, (Dyson I am told was a screwup by the reporter), finding Gally/Alita in the scrap yard as it is one of the most critical parts of the story. From what I have been told, a trilogy is planned and the new 3-D system is simply awesome! The immersive effect is such that some people got dizzy from motion scenes. I am told that some of the Hunter Warrior fights are beyond normal. They fully intended to keep the feel of the Manga intact. Somewhere in the archives of Ripper's, you can find concept art for the movie, hint hint! Quite a lot of theaters in California have already been modified for the new 3-D system, and the sub woofers for the sound system have 1/8 inch thick steel plate cones so they don't warp. I got to sit in on a test and I swear you can feel your hair move from the air pressure.
They did use Apple computers for some editing, but cost of the mainframe computers to render the film was such that accounting was to a tenth of a second. The computer scan lines are so precise that two will easily fit in the width of a human hair. One thing you should keep in mind, in the late 50's and early 60's, you would go to the matinee and see several serial films in a row, such as "the Lone Ranger" and "The Green Hornet", where each film was a continuation of the last. If "Battle Angel", make s a good profit and consider Mr. Cameron has been know to film parts of 3 films simultaneously. Think the "Aliens" movies.
. I still have quite a few friends in the studios, and though there is a lot they cannot say due to nondisclosure agreements, I will share what they do tell.
BTW, if it means anything, I am told the "Motor Ball" race makes the chariot race sceans from Ben Hur look tame.

seriously curious about how theyre going to handle supersonic speed. slowmotion would be the easiest, im hoping it wont just be normal speed combat. it would look best if they had the the fighting happen super fast in real time.

Also there are trade papers and magazines for the "insiders" where you look for work on movies/television, and if you're good at what you do you get offered positions. I myself was a Mechanic, and in Hollywood it means you don't work on cars. For instance I managed access control, a phone bank exchange (PBX), UNIX + Microsoft servers, and Cameras. Though retired I still get to occasionally go to premiers or free tickets.
