Are Viz retarded

Post by jkays »

im a huge fan of battle angel alita + baa last order i've read all of the volumes thanks to this site so a huge thanks goes out to everyone that translates and uploads and everything.

anyway i've decided to buy all the volumes and own the real things so to start off i bought the first 3 volumes from amazon and i finally recieved them today yipee :D

then i decided to scan through them and WTF  why the hell is the last chapter of rusty angel the first chapter in tears of an angel and the last chapter of tears of an angel the first chapter in killing angel WTF is up with that. killing angel ends were its supposed to so why dont the others.

i cant see this as being a mistake by Viz so if its not then why the hell have they done this

Pretty simple really:

Viz earns money by selling their products (obviously). If someone completely new to battle angel alita were to buy the first volume they have to get him/her hooked somehow and get them to read the next volume too. And the next, and the next... Therefore they split off some of the chapters in order to create "cliffhangers". Meaning, you buy the first volume you read it, finish the last chapter, and then you go like "oh no! wth will happen with Alita???!!!! Ahhhh!!! I gotta know!!!", and then you buy volume 2, and so on...

Well at least Viz hasn't gotten the weird idea to delay the releases to create anticipation... Or actually they have, at least a bit, but not long enough for people to loose interest, like a couple of other companies... Like for instance ADV (May God eternally curse their name)... Oh wait: they did release the Rurouni Kenshin OVA:s... With totally fucked up dubbing...

Whatev... I'm just rambling...

Here in Spain we started by getting half-volumes on a monthly release, now we are getting ONE volume PER YEAR, It's sheer madness, we've got to wait for november for caerula's Saga part 2....

Here in Russia we don't have any serious companies to make any release of BAA. And to buy manga from VIZ from here is really pain in the arse. So don't be so sad guys, 'cuz there is always someone who suffers more than you do in this world.

PS: Though manga in russian is about 2 Euro per volume

The orginal, flipped, large size Viz editions were superior IMO in that the volumes were divided by story arc...you could pick up any volume and read it beginning to end and have an awesome, self-contained story.

I used to buy from viz but i was then had some issues with them. First it started with i bought a rurouni kenshin and the book was littleraly backwards and flipped upside down. When you open the front cover you get the last page upside down. Then they lost an 85 dollar order which was lost in the end its 5 nad half months to get to my house. That was the end of buying from viz. If your looking to buy try chapters or indigo that company.

:D It's cool to see people from all over the world here talking about BAA.

I've got the older larger volumes 1 & 2 , the rest are the newer ones and you end up reading some of the story twice as you go from old vol. 2 to the newer vol. 3 :?
