The WORST manga you have ever read/warnings

Post by Gallygun »

We all know Naruto, One Piece and the like are pretty poorly thought of on this forum, so let's try to name some manga that aren't talked about a lot.

I hate Black God. It's called Kuro Kami in Japan, and it's done by Square Enix to some extent. That should have been my first warning.

The only thing "decent" about it is the art. The artist's use all the typical anime-ish stylings, and make it look very well polished. But there's an entire TEAM of artists, which means there is absolutely NO originality or style.

There is no story whatsoever! It is so cut and paste. There's a game programmer who lost his mother in a brutal way in front of his eyes. There's a young girl who's not human who is trying to kill her brother for honor and revenge of her mystical tribe that just so happened to be right outside of Japan, but no one knew about it. There's a lot of death, blood, and fanservice in the form of sex.

That's it! There is NO depth, NO characterization, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! It is the WORST manga I have ever read, and I have read a lot. STAY AWAY from Black God/Kuro Kami.

That is my warning, care to warn us about your rancid manga experiences? D=

I saw a complete collection of Wounded Man at a half-priced bookstore for dirt cheap, and decided to buy it. I had recognized the artist as the guy who drew Sanctuary.

Holy fuck was it terrible.

I mean, it has a nonsensical plot, awful characters, and the translation I had was pretty bad. The grammar made me think it was probably translated by a non-native English speaker and was never edited by someone to localize it and smooth it out. A shame considering it was pretty good quality printing otherwise. The plot basically revolves around this guy who was a high-school (or college?) football star who was approached by a company called "God's Pornography" to have him star in a porno with some female tennis player from the 80s. He refused because he was in love with his high-school sweetheart and wouldn't cheat on her. So, being an evil pornography company that makes porno featuring celebrities for rich people, they kidnap his girlfriend, torture both of them, kill his girlfriend, so he moves to Brazil to plan his revenge. If you can find a copy or scans, it might be worth it for the absolutely bizarre situations, like the protagonist raping a woman to scare her away from the jungle. Then said woman gets her "revenge" by following him and cock-teasing him until they fall in love shortly after she urinates in his eyes to flush poison out of them. Oh, and at one point he rubs an aphrodisiac into her genitals, then proceeds to inject a corpse's penis with a hardening agent (no, not Viagra, I think it was plaster?) then tells her if she needs to relieve herself, she can fuck the corpse. No, seriously. And besides these bizarre situations, the plot goes no where for a long time and bores the shit out of anyone who dares read it.

I sold it back to the used bookstore a while later. This was about 5 or 6 years ago. They still have that series in their manga and comics section. I just want to warn anyone else looking for good classic manga series to stay clear of this horse shit, or at least avoid paying for it.

Many people will, maybe, disagree, but the worst manga I have read in doubtlessly, Abara, by Tsutomu Nihei. The plot is idiot, the the characters are ridiculous and the script was written by an imbecile. As to the art, it was probably given to a child.

There are lots and lots of monsters appearing God knows from where, and monsters created to fight them. The place where the story happens must be between the post-apocalypse and an alien environment. Yes, totally senseless.

I read some critics recommending it as a good work. As my grandfather used to say, many critics become famous and rich commenting things they don't know and destroying things that are good, just because that seems to give them style and identity.

Anyway, after TheNefariousImp's comments, I think there is something worse. Actually, I am curious now.

Wow I haven't read any of these, but the manga I have truly detested and at the same time it has held some sort of fascination on me over 4 or five volumes and I even looked at the end tosee if it truly had a point, and guess what I didn't find one.
The world is mine (French title) is really a terrible manga, its art is messy, it is ultra violent, and the story is as far as I can say pointless, maybe I am mistaken but hell can some one enlighten me?
I see no point in following two mavericks wreaking havoc on their path for no reason, beating, killing, raping, ;-(*) for no reason
one of therm is a wimp while the other is a sociopath, and in the middle of the story roles are reversed? why? and what is it with that giant bear? only a pretext for nonsensical violence, the story of which we follow in parallel to make things all the more messy
I really see that like an experience from the mangaka
let's see how gruesome I can get why not letting loose a giant beart in a kindergarden playground should be fun!! yeaaaaaaaaaah

If all that served an intricate storyline or if it was justified, well I wouldn't call it bad I am a berserk fan after all, and I read other manga like ushujima, which are realistically violent, but all I see in this is its pointlessness, and the fact that manga works so well in France that publishers release each and every dumb shit they can find in Japan
This may not be the worst manga ever (Nefarious imp's choice really sounds over unbeatable and over the top) but hell I hated it.

Usually if I don't like a manga I just stop reading inmediately, but the only title that comes into my mi mind is Zetman; it's a manga... with fillers :/ I mean, there are a lot of chapters (even volumes!) completely precindible.

Mirai Nikki is definitely one of my worst manga experience I ever had, it is so shallow and the main characters are obnoxious and extremely irritating , there's no wit, no skilful writing whatsoever. Characterisation is so bad, i never seen a manga as truly. awful as this series, Elfen Lied is a better psychological manga

@ 00_unit to each their own I guess, I've personally really enjoyed Mirai Nikki, Though I can see its many faults and I understand where you come from.
The story itself is but a pretext to make a love story in extreme conditions. The thing needed more thought put to it, the premise is ridiculous and most characters are hardly more than sketched. The friends are absolutely unbearable, yukiteru hardly ever does anything by himself until the the 2/3 of the work is reached. Minene is a big hearted moe terrorist (this sentence says it all).
But there is Yuno, and man did I love this character, a true deranged anti hero.
A girl, who against impossible odds tried her utmost to be happy in a definitely twisted way. But the character moved me, and you can see how the author put much thought into her character and into little else, everything revolves around her. She is the main pull of the work, if you remove her, the whole thing collapses, which shouldn't happen.
It's a pity, She deserved a better story, but I like the series anyway.
I can't remember elven lied, I'll give it a reread.

its interesting to know this series as far as I'm concern is extremely polarised among the manga community, you either like it or really hate it. Most people I know like it solely for Yuno, as far as I'm concern people enjoy this series on a superficial level and that's fine for sure. But there is a lot unrealistic bad writing like how a 5 five year child have access to gas, or how a 14 boy can use an adult as a human shield as he lacks the upper body strength for such a feat and Yuno knife skill is unbelievable for a 14 year old who can deflect attacks with ease. Yuno for me is a generic yandere that is seen before, her personality annoy me to no ends and I hate characters that are extremely possessive and shows signs of jealousy easily.
Guts is a much more interesting antihero and Lucy/Kaede and definitely Rick in Rick and Morty he's really funny but full of nuanced as well too, for me anyway

another worst manga I remember recently is your lie in april. It was very hard for me to read as most of the main female characters are very violent towards the main male character. I REALLY hate the trope of females being violent towards males as it come out as being too misandrist for my taste one of the most overrated works ever made, people find tragic and sound but I didn't even care for characters one bit. It's the authors fault for mistiming comedy and drama as it is hard to get a consistent tone.

Nononono is another really bad one as well. the premise is there's this guy who is a very skilful ski jumper, but the thing is this ski jumper isn't a guy but girl, as only males are alllowed to participate in the olympics. A premise that already sounds bad and doomed to fail. Most of the characters have very warped psyche that are males over a ski jumping games, and misuses melodrama too many times no surprise the series got cancelled with its abrupt ending

Tomodachi no Hanashi is something I hated a lot too, the character friendship is manipulative and find them hypocritical and illogical it's so bad

til death do us part is another series I hated, but my number one worst manga of all time is parallel paradise.
The premise is extremely stupid. A man had transported to another world, where there is no males but females only, and since this man is the first male in that world, the women gets sexually aroused around him and wants to have sex with him and when they get touched by him, the girls start to drool and juices come out a certain part of their body. I'm not making this stuff up  . The author that wrote elfen lied, has now written disasterious works like nononono and parallel paradise.

I don't know about others but I agree with you. Abara is the worst manga I too have read. And some critics think that being the devil's advocate or disagreeing for the sake of disagreeing in the in-thing. But sadly, it isn't.

Mildly suggest never reading Komi-san due to the insane faffery at play. First 120 chapters were actually somewhat charming but that's about it and then the love triangle (more of a love Water molecule) starts at about chapter 123 which ensnared my soul and wasted my time. Character lose their features and drawing styles over the years. Don't read it.
Spoiler:
Manbagi should've won the triangle
