Alitas german translation on GLO_c106_p24 was awful to read even though it's just 2 words.

First of all you have to decide if that attack was one attack only ( looks like that to me ) or multiple because the way you've written it she does both *mindblow*
If it's one it would be:
HE BROKE MY ÄUSSEREN STOSS!!
If it's multiple it would be:
HE BROKE MY ÄUSSERE STÖSSE!!

Explaination:
1. "STOSSE"
You merged the singular and plural form together. It's either STOSS ( singular ) or STÖSSE ( plural ).
Don't just write an Ö into an O because you don't have it on your keyboard! Same for Ä/A and Ü/U.

2. "AUSSER"
Take a look into THESE possible translations compared to THOSE.
Instead of taking the version that relates to something from OUTSIDE you've taken the version that DIFFERENTIATES/EXCLUDES from something.
So instead of AUSSER you should write it ÄUSSERER or in THIS context ÄUSSEREN which is simply the neutral and more fitting form of the male ÄUSSERER.

I believe you should consider some points. Every time a chapter is translated in this site, the script is offered for appreciation, so anyone is allowed to comment what is right or not - even because the translator here is supposed to understand Japanese and English, but he is not necessarily a German speaker. If you check phase 106 translation script, you will see that the usage of Ausser Stosse is commented and explained. Of course you could have disagreed and made your points. After the final version is realeased, such comments are not exactly helpful.

I think you need to calm down. If you don't like the way we translate, you're welcome to buy the official release when it comes out. Nobody here speaks German as well as you do clearly, so it would have been great if you had told us this before the chapter came out. All I got was オイサーシュトース, which just in case you can't read Japanese is oy-sah-shuto-su. So please take your rage to Mr. Kishiro, because he's the one that didn't write it in perfect German in the first place. The kanji for it mean Arc-Shadow-Attack, so I don't even know if ÄUSSEREN STOSS has the correct meaning.

We don't because it's not on our keyboard, but because it's not in the font. If you could read french, you could have raged at almost all pages, because ALL accents are also removed.

Come on guys, he is German obviously, it's in his genes to be so annoying about his language!! ;)

As Targa said, it's just a fan translation, the purpose here is, IMO, to understand the meaning of the dialogues and the story, not to be so stubborn about what has been said in the manga. Even you Sergio you might be a bit too strict about all those punctuation marks... But that's another subject of discussion!

Oh and BTW, thanks for the cheese-eaters, it reminds me that some people still have good tastes!

I am indeed strict and stubborn about correct spelling, so I never said he is wrong. I just said that his remarks would have been welcome… if given before the release. After the release they nave no use. Anyway, his notes may be considered before the tankôbon is made.

@ TargaryenX:
1. There's no reason to calm down because I was not even enraged - I do the red markings for visibility not to express my rage.
I was just reading the Scanlation and was literally sitting there for 5min wondering what exactly I've just been looking at.
2. I just received the preordered Volume 15.
Still I like to keep an eye on the scanlations as they're a little ahead of the official translation.
3. I was not aware that everyone on this forum can contribute to the process of scanlation.
If a volunteer for the little german parts is needed I'll gladly keep an eye out for those.
4. If the Kanji reads Arc-Shadow-Attack the entire translation is faulty as a propper translation given the situation of a martial arts fight would be Gebogener Schatten Schlag ( a hit/punch ) or if you'd like to stay with a 1:1 translation one could even go with Gebogener Schatten Angriff ( an attack ).
I'm really starting to wonder how you guys managed to translate the Arc-Shadow-Attack into Ausser Stosse...

@ Lemonlol:
Well that's some kind of an argument.
Anyway... DoT's! More DoT's!

@ Sam:
1. I'm Swiss.
2. Punktuation can save lives ( and I believe propper translation could too ):

In the raw, they give the kanji arc-shadow-attack, accompanied by a pronunciation guide in small characters to the side saying oy-sah-shuto-su. It's left up to us to figure out how to romanize that into proper German.

The pronunciation guides are used a lot and are called furigana. Usually you see them on obscure kanji that the average person wouldn't know off the top of their head, but sometimes they're used stylistically for names of places or techniques, that is to say they don't have anything to do with how the kanji are read. This gives the author the ability to use cool kanji for the meaning and a cool name for the technique at the same time.

I'm not sure what Äusseren stoss is supposed to mean as an attack. "Outer blow"? I think Kishiro just picked something that sounded cool and figured none of his fans would ever look it up in German.

Unlikely, as he has always had Teutophone readers.
Actually, I realize German is the second foreign language in Japan - just after English (that is everywhere).
Some authors like Naoki Urasawa (20th Century Boys, Monster) are always quoting German culture - language included.
The case is: in a work like Gunnm, nothing is as simple as it seems to be.

@ TargaryenX:
I guess I can't yet grasp the pain a Japanese translator must go through as I'm still just learning the letters myself so I'm at the very beginning of it.

Outer blow as an English translation of Äusseren Stoss could probably be taken.
Something like an attack that does not directly goes towards the center of the enemy to strike but that moves around him like she did with Toji or Gavid when she hit him with her knee.

IF both attacks are the same like discussed in the 106 Translation Script thread then Arc-Shadow-Attack would be the better choise as it would totally make sense in the context of the fight scenes:
By rotating around the enemies arms she is doing an arc and by doing this counterclockwise on his right arm / clockwise on his left arm she appears behind the shadow of the opponents arm in relation of his FoV.

Since Toji has seen the fight with Gavid he probably remembered it and was able to aticipate and block it with his other hand.

Yeah... Let's do it like you do. Make wilde assumptions about where ppl come from and/or how annoying they are about a language beeing translated into weirdness.

Instead of nagging the translators when the next chapter would have been released why haven't you taken the time to correct them if you, unlike me, are such an authority when it comes to the German language?

As with the learning of any language, the more you learn, the more you begin to see how much you do not know.
If you are only now beginning to learn Hiragana (平仮名, ひらがな or ヒラガナ)
and Katakana (片仮名, カタカナ or かたかな), just wait till you start on Kanji (漢字).
There over 200 Kanji to master.
I won't even go into the difference between the manner a child, a man, a teenage girl, and a woman's use of the language differs.
Then there is the formal and informal use of the language.
I passed the JLPT (Level N1 via The Army School of Languages), and I still had issues as there were regional differences (slang) that plagued me at Hokkaido.
Look here to see what you have ahead of you http://www.jlpt.jp/e/guideline/testsections.html
I wouldn't try to do what these guys do, they do one hell of an awesome job!

Learning German and Portuguese was easy in comparison.
For to win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the acme of skill.
To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill.
