Sweet! :P

I like Kayna's expression on the title page.
Spoiler:
Pick the tweezer arm Figure!

Also nice to see the guys that Alita beat up when she visited the farm and the Barjack cyberdoc.

Wow i thought the next one only comes out in 3 days.

Well this is mostly a talking chapter, mostly to show some more of what happend to certain characters. Especialy Ido and his assistant.
Spoiler:
Interesting to see the Barjack doctor and him actualy getting a backstory, considering he only appeared in a single scene in the original.

Also interesting to see the inside of a Tuned's head more closely. Kind of funny that their heads are not hollowed out like the skulls of the Zalem adults. I think the white wavy things are shock absorbers, adding to them being capable of survivng shockwave attacks to the head.

Little sad moment with GR-4s grave, but then i had to remember that we never learned what she was doing before Figure met her. For all we know she could have been worse than Sechs.

Kind of funny how Figure Four is so powerfull in his flesh and blood form that his new Cyborg arm is actualy the weak link in his body now.

Now the big question is what is the doctor telling him at the end?
Well pretty short again, yet again Yukito seems to be taking his time.

In the end though, this new development brings up the question what ever will happen if Gally finds out what Sechs did to Figure?

Actually 2 scenes:

1) When Den fights Vanado.
2) When Buick learns that the surviving brains of the Barjack soldiers will be put into the Heng's shells.

With the way this substory is going, I wonder if postswipe-Ido will find the disc that preswipe-Ido made and will thus pull a Kryten (with all of his "erased" memories being unerased). But knowing Kishiro, I doubt thatll happen, and in reality, old Ido is truly dead and any relationship Ido has with Alita will be something new. Better than nothing...!

I am liking this a lot...still hoping for a translation on 113 I think, but w/e I have a decent idea about what is going on.

I am kind of wondering if the Japanese fans of Gunnm were bitching about the sometimes hairbrained-ness of Zott and this is Gunnm getting back to basics.

This brings me to the greater question, what is the Japanese Gunnm scene like at this time? We are kind of a pirate little forum, (Thank you so much Ripper), is Gunnm popular still? what ages read it? I assume it still has to be marketed somewhat for adults, the gore has really become next level (Figure's arm, Alita commiting the Camlam incident...).

just wondering.

well, let's take a look at japan numbers : GLO is not in the 2011 overall top 50 at least...

Image

...although there was barely any GLO publication last year, due to change of editor.

not even in 2010 top 50 of authors, lowest was 1.5M. so, no real success at home, because of the female hero and too serious SF (lack of magical school girls).

i guess it's because the whole thing is legendary, that it can't stop from its own weight. The original series forged fond memories for a whole generation of european and american kids (us)

my guess is that kishiro sells 10x more overseas what he sells home... just in France it was more than a million overall copies every year so it would rank him in the top 50 (while a lot of others japmarket-only authors would get out of the international ranking)

that's how you become a legendary niche author in your own country :P

as for the community, at least there is a raw provider for us, so i would guess it does exist :P²

In the year 2010, Gunnm: Last Order was the 7th most sold manga in France.

http://jesulink.com/noticias/4105

In Spain, Gunnm: Last Order was in the Top 10 of the most sold manga for the months of November and December of 2011 (usually the yearly release dates of the Gunnm Graphic Novels... yep, here the editors publish Gunnm once or twice a year).

As far as i can tell it also sells well in germany. I also have not seen any manga selling shop in my city where they didn't sold Last Order or at least the original.

Also are the japanese still so stuck up that they can't like female heros in non magical girl or high school stories? Well at least the whole female hero problem would explain the strong focus on male looking Sechs, Toji and Zekka in Last Order. Kishiro trying to gain more attention.

Problem however is that we don't know how much he profits from the overseas sells.

HOWEVER the strong oversea sells would explain why Yukitopia has a english side which also includes the possebility of sending in fan designs.

Essentialy he takes his western audience serious.

... which also makes him a stranger amongst other JP authors. also, all the references to west hard rock bands, multi cultural backgrounds and words, etc.

while on the opposite, jap editors barely consider the outer market, sufficient for them to sell licences while they could have opened local offices and start translating worldwide, to collect money directly.

But they don't want that. eventually, you won't be surprised anaymore about how f*cked up are the japanese people :P

Spoiler:
Since we see Desty Nova as a shadow in some panels of the barjack medic's flashback, we can presume that the two phisician shared some secret, and that is what b.m. is wispering to Figure 4.Figure is shocked, it can be the Secret of Salem, sinche B.M. seems to be deeply intrested on cyber experimentation, or Nova's progect to resurrect/rebuild the actual Gally.
