Now, on the other hand, Kodansha is working their asses off to catch up to the current release of the Japanese version. They've released their first volume (no.16) already, and volumes 17 and 18 ...

I just received an email from Amazon: My preorder of Volume 16 has been shipped.

Volume 17 is due in February, and 18 is due after that as well.

It looks like Kodansha is getting their act together.

Finally, the wait is over for a translated version of GLO 111.

Thanks for the wallpaper link, I've edited one so that I have Gally on the right side as opposed to the left, since I prefer to keep my icons on the left.

I'm generally not worried about the translation now that Kodansha is publishing - the wait is just going to be a while, but I only took the time to point out that we're not as timely as other scanlation groups.

You can criticize me for that all you want, I'm just calling it like I see it.

I'm not trying to bash on our resident translators here. If you hadn't cherry-picked my last post, you would have realized that I perfectly UNDERSTAND that they have lives. Try not to be a selective jerk, please.

So, is the lack of a fully translated copy of GLO 111 caused by the fact that Kodansha USA is going to release the books soon, or is it simply laziness/busy people/lack of interest?

I wonder what will happen with her. Will she reappear in the graphic novel following Sechs, and eventually becoming his love interest? After all, she did say "Master Sechs" in the Viz translation...

Kodansha USA has responded to my email. They were unable to answer two of my questions, but they answered this:

I'm not able to answer questions 1 and 3, but I can tell you that will be using the Alita name for both the main character and the series.

I'm very curious as to what Kodansha will do with the translation. Will they stick with Viz's version or change it?

Also, some people here seem to be forgetting that the United States is a lawyer-crazy country. I was half-expecting Viz to fight tooth and claw for control over the license.

I am dancing for joy. I'm glad that Viz Media was willing to listen to reason. Viz isn't such a bad company after all. What may have helped them transfer the license may have been the fact that it was not a very high-grossing graphic novel series compared to the likes of Bleach and Naruto. :P ...

TargaryenX, I appreciate your translations. The reason why I'd been asking is because of the following:


1. Shueisha no longer publishes Gunnm in Japan. Kishiro moved to Kodansha.

2. Viz is owned by Shueisha. Viz is the current license-holder of the Battle Angel Alita property in the United States ...

It's been three months. Are we going to get a translated copy of LO 110, or do I need to bend some knees the wrong way to make this happen?

In case you haven't noticed, Rippersanime is pretty much the ONLY forum on the internet that actually goes around translating the Last Order series.

Don't forget, Viz Comics is owned by Shueisha and another publisher in Japan. The brass at Shueisha might decide to pressure their western counterparts to drop the BAA series entirely as retaliation against Kishiro.
