It's CGI, so the only make-up used is the computer program that's employed to render her face. I was guessing based on no particular knowledge other than the structure of the manga. I hope we skip makkaku and I really think we get to the end of Mororball by movie 1. We'll see. If people want to say that the motorball scenes are amazing and like this and that; seeing as how they are all cg, if they are done it is not for 2-3 movies away. The best looking shots this early will be for trailers. I guess I could see the climax of 2 being Jashugan and most of Yugo in Flash backs or something...but finding her + Yugo + Motorball is not happening in 1 movie.
As for plans for a trilogy...? who knows with Avatar 2-4 or whatever. They will stretch it out as long as it can go. A trilogy that ends at the end of Motorball would be too slow, I wager. I would like it, but I think it might bomb before we get to the third movie. These movies are either going to be a big deal or die an ugly death...: (

Uh, no again! Filming on site/stage has "technically" not begun, but background motion test, and computerized figures have already been created. Remember Cameron had work being done simultaneously. So not hearsay, at least these people have never lied to me, ever. Unless, have you also have worked for Fox, Universal or an Independent filmmaker? I mean no offence to the guys who do all the technical work. And I'm not giving an opinion; that I will withhold until I view the film. No, I don't work on movies but as a viewer, my opinion will matter. As James Cameron has said himself, that's the only opinion that matters at the end of the day. Something can look great to the crews and tank at the box office. That's why he always shows preliminary screenings to small audiences before his movies come out. The place I worked at was called "the Post Group" (Google it),and was two blocks south of Sunset and Vine. They did ADR (After Dub Recording) to make the "mouth flaps" , for Ranma 1/2 there,IMG_20160915_1610509_rewind.jpg I got this cell of Akane, autographed by the "Voice Talent", given to me.
I got turned onto about 20 cells, this one was appraised at $1500 a few years ago. I am told I can get a whole lot more at auction now!

Deadpool bad guy Ed Skrein will suit for Alita: Battle Angel, James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez’s ambitious adaptation of the popular manga graphic novels.
Skrein will once again play a heavy, closing a deal to join the cast that already includes Maze Runner actress Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz and Jackie Earl Haley.

on a serious note isnt Hugo supposed to be like 14? and alita was only 16 when ido found her. well 216 if you count the years she was asleep. rosa looks way to old. alita keeps looking 16 through the whole manga too. if i remember correctly shes 31 at the end of final order.
