It's CGI, so the only make-up used is the computer program that's employed to render her face. So we should say, as long as Rosa's acting is good and the guys fiddling with the keyboards do a good job, we'll get a bearable Alita. :P

I interviewed for previz on Avatar spring 08 but they put me on hold and in the meantime I went to Singapore for another fancy company. VFX Artist. The mocap system was nothing special...and that was almost 10 years ago. Cool creative ideas that haven't changed the world since. Mocap is kind of unbound pinnacle engineering off the shelf now. I didn't get any gunnm details and asked at the time and all I got was that they had a lot of previz and design going then.

I was guessing based on no particular knowledge other than the structure of the manga. I hope we skip makkaku and I really think we get to the end of Mororball by movie 1. We'll see. If people want to say that the motorball scenes are amazing and like this and that; seeing as how they are all cg, if they are done it is not for 2-3 movies away. The best looking shots this early will be for trailers. I guess I could see the climax of 2 being Jashugan and most of Yugo in Flash backs or something...but finding her + Yugo + Motorball is not happening in 1 movie.

As for plans for a trilogy...? who knows with Avatar 2-4 or whatever. They will stretch it out as long as it can go. A trilogy that ends at the end of Motorball would be too slow, I wager. I would like it, but I think it might bomb before we get to the third movie. These movies are either going to be a big deal or die an ugly death...: (

What? Are you kidding me? Machete is a joke, simply. Rodriguez is one thousand times better than Cameron to direct actors.
Unless you believe that FX is enough to make a good film, Cameron producing (that is, paying the costs and giving the technology) and Rodriguez directing (that is, leading with human beings) will make a great result. Well, if you do prefer Cameron's style of "direction"…

Jackie Earle Haley joins Alita. I like him, would it be Makkaku?

Uh, no again! Filming on site/stage has "technically" not begun, but background motion test, and computerized figures have already been created. Remember Cameron had work being done simultaneously. So not hearsay, at least these people have never lied to me, ever. Unless, have you also have worked for Fox, Universal or an Independent filmmaker? Your opinion is fine, but I think I will believe these people as they actually do the work in film and television and you don't
The place I worked at was called "the Post Group" (Google it),and was two blocks south of Sunset and Vine. They did ADR (After Dub Recording) to make the "mouth flaps" , for Ranma 1/2 there,

I got this cell of Akane, autographed by the "Voice Talent", given to me.
I got turned onto about 20 cells, this one was appraised at $1500 a few years ago. I am told I can get a whole lot more at auction now!

I'm a solid Robert Rod fan, but his work covers a lot of ground. Sin City is the main reason I like RR for Gunnm. YK was a crazy Frank Miller fan going way back. LOL, Ashen Victor is Gunnm with a Sin City paintjob!!! RR is the best, most legit choice.

Spy Kids made him a lot of money too so he gets to do whatever he wants to do.

One big BIG BIG thing that comes to my mind about the film fate of Gunnm is "the Origin Story". No way are the movies going as long as the books have without giving us stuff. We might get the Martian stuff way out of order. I am still ready for "Panzer Kunst High School" to be the best part of Gunnm yet. Teen angst + Cyborg Kung Fu Martian Soldiers sounds like Ultimate-Gunnm!!!!POWER!!!!!!!

I mean no offence to the guys who do all the technical work. And I'm not giving an opinion; that I will withhold until I view the film. No, I don't work on movies but as a viewer, my opinion will matter. As James Cameron has said himself, that's the only opinion that matters at the end of the day. Something can look great to the crews and tank at the box office. That's why he always shows preliminary screenings to small audiences before his movies come out. It would be good if RR takes a few leaves out of Cameron's book, actually.

Anyway, thanks for your input. I too, am hoping the film will be good.

I get a kick from Tatiwaki Kuno, his sister Kodachi, and Shampoo the Amazon. It's amazing how long that series ran too!

Oh god ranma just got a new voice actor (im watching the dub). I mean its okay but the first one was really good.

I think Genma and Happosai are hilarious. theres something so amazing about the 80/90s anime aesthetic. So nostalgic and romantic.

Ed Skrein Joins James Cameron's 'Alita: Battle Angel'
Image
Deadpool bad guy Ed Skrein will suit for Alita: Battle Angel, James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez’s ambitious adaptation of the popular manga graphic novels.

Skrein will once again play a heavy, closing a deal to join the cast that already includes Maze Runner actress Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz and Jackie Earl Haley.

Rodriguez is directing while Cameron and his Lightstorm Entertainment partner Jon Landau are producing for Twentieth Century Fox.

Set in the 26th century, Alita tells of a female cyborg (Salazar) that is discovered in a scrapyard by a scientist. With no memory of her previous life except her deadly martial-arts training, the woman becomes a bounty hunter, tracking down criminals.

Skrein will play a character named Zapan, a villainous cyborg who is in possession of a weapon called the Damascus blade.

An October start in Austin is being targeted.
Not gonna lie, the cast so far is amazing.

I think Zapan is going to be a mix between make-up and CG, I read somewere that Fraud Freddy is going to be a giant CG monster (Makaku maybe?) and that Christoph Waltz is going to play Ido (or "Dyson Ito").

I hope they keep the symbol for Zapan, just trew a few bucks to Blue Öyster Cult and also add a few songs in the sountrack.

So.... we've got Hugo.
"At long last Fox has finally found someone to play the love interest to Rosa Salazar's Alita in Robert Rodriguez's upcoming big screen adaptation of Yukito Kishiro's popular Japanese manga series Alita: Battle Angel, which James Cameron is producing alongside his Lightstorm Entertainment partner Jon Landau.

Set in the 26th century, the film sees the people and cyborgs of the Scrapyard living beneath the floating and ruling city of Tiphares, whose trash pours down below. One day Doctor Dyson Ido, a former Tipharean citizen and doctor specializing in cyborg repairs, finds the intact head of young cyborg-girl in a huge pile of scrap. He takes her in, fixes her, and gives her a name, Alita. Still amnesiac, but with knowledge of long forgotten fighting techniques, Alita decides to become a bounty collector.

Nashville's Keen Johnson is set to play a young man named Hugo, who despite making ends meet by stealing robot parts, spends time with Alita teaching her how to play a gladiatorial-type game called Motorball.

The studio did a couple of rounds of testing for the role, and among the candidates were Douglas Booth ("Jupiter Ascending"), Noah Silver ("Tyrant"), Avan Jogia ("Tut"), and Jack Lowden ("Dunkirk").

Also starring Jackie Earle Haley, Christoph Waltz, and Ed Skrein, the film should begin production shortly for a July 2018 opening."

And Vector.
Mahershala Ali in Talks to Join Alita: Battle Angel Film's Cast
Image
Entertainment news source The Hollywood Reporter revealed on Monday that actor Mahershala Ali (Luke Cage, House of Cards) is in negotiations to join the cast of James Cameron's Alita: Battle Angel, the live-action film of Yukito Kishiro's Battle Angel Alita (GUNNM) manga. According to The Hollywood Reporter, if Ali signs a deal, he "will play one of the movie's villains, a man named Vector who runs and fixes matches in a gladiator-style combat game called Motorball."

Film news websites Collider and The Hollywood Reporter stated in May that the film has cast Rosa Salazar (Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, The Divergent Series: Insurgent, Man Seeking Woman) in the lead role. The Hollywood Reporter has also reported that Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained, Spectre, The Legend of Tarzan) has signed on to play Doctor Dyson Ido, "the cybersurgeon who finds the cyborg [protagonist] and becomes her mentor." Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen, A Nightmare on Elm Street remake, Preacher, The Dark Tower, The Birth of a Nation) will additionally play "a monstrous cyborg in a villain role that will call for plenty of CG and greenscreen," while Ed Skrein (The Transporter Refueled, Deadpool) will play Zapan, "a villainous cyborg who is in possession of a weapon called the Damascus blade." Keean Johnson (Nashville, Spooksville) will play Hugo, described as the "love interest" and "a young man who teaches Alita how to play a gladiator-style game called Motorball but who also has a secret side job stealing robot parts."

Robert Rodriguez (El Mariachi, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Sin City, Spy Kids) is set to direct the film. James Cameron and his Lightstorm Entertainment partner Jon Landau are producing the project, and Shutter Island's Laeta Kalogridis penned a script. The production crew aims to start filming this October in Austin. Fox has scheduled the film for a wide release on July 20, 2018. The film will get an IMAX release.

What do you mean, Rosa can totally pass for a teen. She has a baby face and anyway, with the technology they're using for the film, they can manipulate her face to look younger.

Re Vector, the guy who played the cop in Gone in 60 Seconds would have been perfect if he was younger and skinnier.
