I recommend, if you do not know her, Moonlight Mile. Great manga of hard science fiction, and very addictive. But before, I will notice that the first pages are a bit... shocking, for this genre ^_^U.
I don't know if it is published in English. In Spanish and Italian it's.
I've watched the first half of the anime series, it's very good stuff. I hope someday a group do the remaining episodes. Spanish and Italian people are lucky, a large number of good manga is being published in these countries.

Hi there people!

Although I was purchasing the Brazilian edition of the manga Claymore http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=1037, up to vol. #12 now, only recently I started reading it. I've read the first two volumes about two years ago, but these were a bit tiresome and the story up to volume #3 is only so so, also the Brazilian adaptation is crap.

About a week ago I decided to gave it another try, but this time I downloaded all the fans scanlations so far (up to vol. #19, I think). Now I think that I can place Claymore among the best mangas I ever read! It isn't a copy of Berserk, although both share some ideas, and the character development and plot are very good. The only problem is that when I find a manga that I really like I devour it! Now I'm feeling empty, I'll have to wait chapter after chapter scanlation

So if some of you didn't give it a try yet, you must. It's more than enough a good manga to read while waiting Yukito release some more of GLO.

I started Ultra Heaven. Both the drawings and the feel is kind of old school, like the late original BAA. It deals a lot with messed up brains, visions, the difference between reality and dreams and so on (makes you feel like taking part in one of Novas experiments). Together with great art style I also have to mention the breathtaking composition of panels, which is really unique and completely in line with the weird story.
It was mentioned here before, but I want to second that recommendation now. Three out of three volumes scanlated, ongoing, and really good stuff.

Nova messing with my brain!? No, thanks!!

I've dowloaded some of Ultraheaven scanlations but I didn't give it a try yet, I have too many mangas in the reading queue... Now I'm reading K-ON!, light stuff for a change.

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but I believe no one has mentioned http://www.mangareader.net/shingeki-no-kyojin ? Pretty good Shounen/Seinen find, I think. A bit similar to the last couple of chapters of Gantz in a way, but I feel the manner in which this manga draws you into it is executed better. Premise is that humans are living in a world dominated by titans, who devour humans for sport rather than sustenance.

Shingeki no Kyojin?! It seems to be pretty hardcore stuff and it's being scanned by GWR, the same team of the great Dorohedoro! Shame on me I didn't know it yet. Another one to my "to read list", thanks!

Now from K-ON! I've changed to Air Gear that started being published here (Pindorama). It's rather funny, the first three volumes at least. There are 32 volumes now, I'm almost ten years behind! I think I'll take about a week to become updated if I get serious.

By the way, don't submit on-line readers links, it's a disservice to your comrades. Here are proper download links:

Shingeki no Kyojin is one of the best series currently running. Anyone should read it.

School Shock is actually pretty nice as well. Seems shallow at first but turns out to be kinda great and should contain enough mecha girl to satisfy you guys.

Mardock Scramble is kinda new but has the same cyberpunkish vibe that the original Alita series had. Good read, definite recommendation, last chapter got me on my toes, again some decent amount of mecha girl.

Darker Than Black: Shikkoku no Hana kinda remembers me of Alita due to its great art and consistent story. It's a completed (not axed) series, so you might give it a try.

2001 Nights has a fantastic 80's science fiction vibe to it (because it's 80's science fiction), something you only rarely come across nowadays. Since it fits the original serie's time and vibe, you might find it to be a good read.

I don't think I need to mention Akira or Blame, so I don't bold them. If you haven't read either, shame on you. I don't mention Ghost in the Shell because it's too bloated.

Concerning the other series I've read here. If you like Claymore, you should look into Übel Blatt and if you like Emma, then you'll probably like Aria, love Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou (!!) and of course Otoyomegatari.

If you liked Planetes or even more 2001 Nights, you will most likely like the graphic novel The Forever War. It's a novel by Joe Haldeman that was adapted into a comic in the 80s. Recently, Ridley Scott has announced that he will do a movie of the novel.

The story is a kind-of metaphor on vietnam but has enough elements on it to be really good stand-alone SciFi. It's a very decent and rather dark story about the abyss of human kind. In combat, the soldiers get a drug-like treatment, changing them into fearless berserkers with only blurry memory of what they've done. Due to near-lightspeed travel, a campain that lasts a few months for soldiers, lasts years on earth. After a few "month", no one knows (neither the politicians back home nor the soldiers) what this fight really is for.
I admit I haven't read the book yet but I really consider doing so. The artwork is comic-like, so don't expect flashy panel-layout too often. But it adds to the story and the dry, laconic style of storytelling.

My personal top 5 manga are:

Hito Hitori Futari: It was a good paced 84 chapter story that had a good focus on two main characters. I think it was the most heartwarming and best spirit type of story I had ever seen

Battle Angel Alita (series): An obvious one, but one of my main reason why the series impresses me a lot is because Yukito refuses to rely on a formula type of approach for his arcs as he tries to make each one different within his work.

REAL: Talk about disability and the segregation they suffer from the public. This kind of obstacle is really good for character development

Elfen Lied: I like the psychological aspect of the manga as it makes the main character more sympathetic. Minor problem was the violence and fan service

Ashita no Joe: an 70s manga that I'm actually impressed with. Had a compelling storyline, writes the sport of boxing in a respectful and ends good twist to the sport as well. Also it has one of the best endings I seen in manga
