Gunnm - Mars Chronicle 020 (part 1) Is out!

Re: Gunnm - Mars Chronicle 020 (part 1) Is out!
I have a question about the translation of GUNNM Mars Chronicle. Let me know if this is off-topic, and if I should post to a separate thread.
During her fight with Gally, Erika uses an attack called 「機甲・振道」, which was translated as "Panzer Tsaitaan". I'm pretty sure "Tsaitaan" is not correct, because Panzer Kunst attacks typically have German names. So I wonder what that word is supposed to be. "Zeiten"?

I was trying to research that word Tsaitaan and there was no result I think either it is the translator typo or the author had made an inaccurate german word. But I think Zeiten sounds more reasonable right there.youngred said:

Sure. I'm not saying that being martian she can't be japanese. I just can't understand whether she is. If she's actually descendant of the Dornburg family, which doesn't seem to be asian at all, or a maske tumor detatched from that curtained woman, it seems that japanese ancestry wouldn't be present. So she might well be a westener girl with a japanese name out of a whim.I've met Chinese girls (ethnically saying) who are British subjects. So what? Yoko could be Japanese descendant and even be Martian, why not?

Ethnically, she could be anything, but as to the family, it is clear that her parenthood is a fraud. The question now is to know if she was born as an ordinary baby or if she was already born as that monstrosity.MrFaber wrote: Sure. I'm not saying that being martian she can't be japanese. The woman behind the curtain seems to be Japanese though, given that her name is "Kagura".MrFaber wrote: Sure. I'm not saying that being martian she can't be japanese. The Baumburg branch of the Dornburg family actually seems to have a lot of Japanese, or at least East Asian people, associated with it: Lady Kagura, Porwitt, and Gally's "mother".
Some of the locations in Cydonia have Japanese names too, don't they? So the Baumburgs might be Japanese, who married into the Dornburg family, or something.

Yes, the woman claiming to be her mother is definitely not her real mother. I'm also pretty sure that she was not born an ordinary baby, given that Lord Marquis refers to her as an "imitation of a human".Sergio Nova wrote: Ethnically, she could be anything, but as to the family, it is clear that her parenthood is a fraud. Personally, I think it's very likely that she was Maske Tumor grown from Kagura's body. If that's true, then that makes her of the same genetic stock of whatever Kagura is-- either Japanese or a mix of Japanese and German, is my guess.

Well that's interesting. I thought engineered such as the Salem babies, but this looks even better to me. If you think about it, she's the only child with a mechanical body I've ever seen in the entire Gunnm stories.youngred wrote: Personally, I think it's very likely that she was Maske Tumor grown from Kagura's body. Out of curiosity i read again the names on the nameplate that Erika put in memory of the children of Mamiana, and they all seem to span fron east european to central european, with a few that might be italian.
But there is one name i noticed the very first stime i read that chapter that made me say "WTF?".
I don't remember if i mentioned it here before. First Coloum, sixth name is a certain "Cicciolina I."
Now, i've looked for different references online but i couldn't find any.
Cicciolina was the name of art of a famous italian porn star from the 70's and 80's and it's a made up name, which didn't exist before and it doesn't seem to be used ever again in any contest.
So i wonder, how did it end in a panel from Kishiro? Is it an actual reference to the notorius actress who have been an italian senator for, i think, at last 5 years?
An hint toward that could be that "I." at the end of the name, since the real name of Cicciolina was "Ilona Staller".

Indeed! It is writen Chicchi in the translation, but the pronunciation would be the same of Cicci in Italian.youngred wrote:Yea, that was actually the name of the first girl who got killed during the assault of Mamiana: "Cicci".
By the way, what was she doing with the director?
