Glad to read you liked at least part of it.Sergio wrote:Interesting! I liked especially the moving water.

I havn't seen anyone else even try to animate the Manga, trust me on this one, it is a real challenge.
Figure that is 1440 frames (24 frames a second x 60 seconds), for just one minute!
You can see the improvment in the animation as I was learning.
Have a great weekend!

Music is Jeff Beck, There and Back, Star Cycle....
Make a suggestion on the music, it only takes a second to PASTE a differnt one.

I wish the guy who made this would animate a sequence from Last Order instead.

Well, I guess you can't please everyone, and here I thought I was doing something cool that other BA fans would like.
Just kiddin...but really, which one? This is just a past time for me, I was considering the fight with Sachimoto...

Cool idea
Maybe some more photoshop work on some "sequences" =)
How long did it take and which "tools" did you use?

Re: Animating the fight Between Alita & Makaku
I used Paint Shop Pro to create the backgrounds, isolate the charactors, and make the animation sequences. Roxios Video Wave, and Jasc Animation shop are the other two. I agree about the touch up, a vast improvment will occur when I get my Wacom tablet, been drawing with the mouse for now......crazyankan wrote:Cool idea

Yes, it took a long, long time to assemble.
Now if I only had voice actors so's I could animate the mouth flaps too..

Re: Animating the fight Between Alita & Makaku
you have quite a keen director eye, i only saw the video in opening post but you definitely have talent.
i see the first one as a draft animated story board as it's a complete sequence, and can be used in parallel, back and forth for the edit process : frame by frame lossless editing (use repeated frames to alter timing, or it's too fast) while using the "draft" for reference (since it's too much too hold in your head, and takes too much time to get in business when you have stepped out of it for several days : the draft storyboard is a necessary step)
well, maybe you know all that already so... i'll just end on this : you're up to something here, i'll send good vibes
edit : ok i saw latest render. so, comments evolved :
you are overdoing things. seriously. mud stepping at 1:10 is what triggered me. most of the time, noise is enough to suggest what is happening, focus on cleaning roughly the biggest bad blocks, you'll get way better result (and will be more satisfactory for you when you watch a revised version !)
you are good at directing : travelling (=scrollings), zoom, detouring and moving "sprites" but you spill it by overdoing things, (cf supra), so the eye is catched by a 2 frame animation in a corner, not seeing the rest...
also, don't forget the focus : when plan changes, you want the watcher to have his eyes laid on something you want him to notice first.
of course, while animating existing material, you can't do what you want but here is while you can use some overdoing for a time, just to trick the eye for a mere halfsecond
for reference, i provide a berserk animation, not by me of course but its just awesome and made history in the berserk community.
you should not give up while seing this, coz i think, if you work from cleaned materials for the HQ render (while using the draft storyboard idea i suggested ) you WILL achieve the same, your directing skill is just as good. i can help for sound synch btw.
here is the real deal, he probably spent months on that, cavedweller of some sort : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzCz_DgFBvg
YOU CAN DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS, srsly let's just see how long it takes for that first sequence you are working on. i know this is different since you are animating a already existing scene, but the things you can do ? pick your choice, like i said this is "for reference"

First of all let me start by saying thank you very much for the honest criticisms and suggestions.
“I see the first one as a draft animated story board as it's a complete sequence, and can be used in parallel, back and forth for the edit process : frame by frame lossless editing (use repeated frames to alter timing, or it's too fast) while using the "draft" for reference (since it's too much too hold in your head, and takes too much time to get in business when you have stepped out of it for several days : the draft storyboard is a necessary step)
Your guess about the how and the reasoning for doing it this way was right on. I hear the voice of experience when you speak.

I just hate to take away anything from Kishiro’s work as it is obvious that he takes a lot of effort for detail, Maybe when I progress a little further you can clarify where you think a change would improve things. This is a learning experience for me, and a way to pass the time, so this has been fun so far. FOCUS, yes I didn’t think of using the “depth of field” to direct focus to a specific area.. The Berserk reference was cool, and I hope to surpass that standard as I learn the Programs a little better, and get a Tablet, because drawing with a mouse sucks.
It’s cleaning the Effect/movement lines, and the sound balloons for a clean background that have been the real task.
I will endeavor to make good use of your guidance. Also what were you going to suggest about syncing the mouth flaps?
Thanks again for the sincereity,

you're welcome, good work

If you are interested on the "HOW", try this program....
Jasc Animation Shop 3.1. It will give you all the tools to do that type of work.
It is done in the traditional method of Onion Skining the process.
Cheap, easy, and you do not have to be an art major to use it.
It's the easiest way to do animation, no back ground, sketcy lines, and about 12 FPS.
Jap Anime is 14 FPS, and American is 24 FPS.
You should be able to do something like that in no time at all.
No talent needed.

At least, it's not GUNNM related.

It is from Homecoming, the 3rd extra story.moooV wrote:I don't recognize it. Where is it from?

The character… well, it is Alita herself.
Re: Animating the fight Between Alita & Makaku
It looked like it from the first glance, but in fact it doesn't. That's why I've asked.
I don't remember this exact image anywhere, even in the extra stories. It looks similarly, but it isn't Alita. In the Homecoming she was in the Scrapyard. In the extra story 4 she was in the desert and looked similarly, but there was NO image exactly like it (at least, there was no wall in the background).
I mean, there was a wall, but it didn't have a straight edge - it was a rock.

Let me correct the misinformation.moooV wrote:It looked like it from the first glance, but in fact it doesn't. That's why I've asked.

The 3rd extra story is, actually, Extra Story #4, once Extra Story #2 does not exist.
That image is in page 9, and that's neither a wall nor a rock, but the picture line limiting the image. What you see agter it is already the other picture. Anyway, it will make more sense if you look at it.
P.S. Don't confuse the extra stories. They are
#1 - Holly Night - Ido shelters Carole.
#3 - The Sonic Finger - Alita faces a poweful opponent.
#4 - Homecoming - Deckman #50 must be "deactivated".
Re: Animating the fight Between Alita & Makaku
You're right, my bad. I won't open it in the next several months, because I'm not ready yet.
PS.
Anyway, I've read extra stories about two years ago, so it's not as clear as the rest of the manga, which I've last seen this March. Anyway, thank you for refreshing it for me.
